Ngc5128

G'day everyone, been quite a while since I have been able to take any images, (weather, work, life) but here is one from the weekend. My first ever image of NGC5128. Took a while to remember how everything worked, but I got there in the end.

48x300sec @ ISO800 using the gear in my signature. Captured using APT, Calibrated, stacked and processed in Pixinsight.
Thanks for looking.

Well done Rex. For a first shot at this target, its looking great. Its one of those targets with large dynamic range. Up to the imager how far they want to stretch the data to bring out the extended structure. You've got the sweet spot. I think if you pushed it any more the background would become too mottled with noise. Its perhaps on the border line already.

Can't really add to what Jase has said Rex, maybe you could try and reveal a bit more detail in the dust lane? perhaps..? but a great come back

Hi, Rex, remarkable result. I measure the colour of your galaxy as being spot on, salmon pink, but about 5% saturated.

If you wanted to, I think you could safely crank the saturation of the brighter parts of the image up until the hamburger is about 9 or 10% saturated. Nothing horrible happens.

Best,
Mike

Good work, Rexy! A lot of the fainter stuff coming out nicely.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Jason, for the compliment and the heads up about the background. On the monitor that I use for processing it doesn't show up very badly, but when I looked on a different one, I see what you mean, it's actually pushed a lot further than i thought I had. I'll have to do a multi monitor check on my processing in future. Makes me wonder how many of my others in the past have been pushed past what I thought????? Thanks again.

thanks Mike. I'm glad about the colour being right. I'll definitely have a look at saturating it a bit more if you think it can take it. I'll have to revisit this one anyway, as per my comments to Jason above.

Thanks Rick, I was actually surprised with the detail when I first stacked it. A little tweeking and I think it will be one of my best. (gotta cool my camera though, that heat noise kills me every time).
