NGC3372 another old favorite

20 x 120sec, bias, darks, no flats (don't like them can't see the point of them) 8" reflector, canon 1100d moded, unguided, used APT and then processed in Pixinsight, quick processing job. See larger image here http://www.astrobin.com/163774/ Taken last night 14/03/15

Nice job Simon, but this image reinforces my opinion that serious
imagers using DSLRs need both modded and unmodded ones.
The beautiful colours in many objects, including this one, are
overwhelmed by the red, so that they almost look monochrome.
Sorry for the hijack.

Well the next clear night hope to image the same with my unmodded camera and then integrate the two. We'll see if that plan works out!

I would agree with Raymo's comment about the redness of the full spectrum image. I have taken many shots of Eta Carinae and enjoyed the colours. I also shot Eta C Full Spectrum last night with my recently modded Canon 450D (the back filter is totally removed and not replaced; the front 1st pass filter was left in place for sensor protection). Shot through my 10" Imaging Newt from my observatory (on the pier), just three subs of 228 seconds each, used three darks and three offset/bias files and stacked in DSS. Conditions were pretty ordinary. Very similiar shot to yours.
When I first looked at it, I was suprised it was so red, compared to an identical shot taken at Bretti, but the cloud detail is better. It doesn't seem to be so over-powering on galaxies but the loss of the colour pallet is disappointing. How do the CCD guys do it,?

That's somewhat better Simon, [in my opinion], but all the other colours are still lost. It'll be interesting to see how your modded and unmodded integration goes.
