Luna: Vallis Alpes - 2nd Sep

Here's a hi-res of teh Alpine Valley (Vallis Alpes), taken on the 2nd September.

I used the 5x powermate, in pretty ordinary seeing. The rille at the bottom of the valley is easily seen, however the overall quality of the image is fairly disappointing (when compared with my previous effort at this part of the moon).

7 alignment points were used, 75 frames from each were stacked.

really, still a top quality pic mike. it shows stacks of detail and as you said, the rile stands out like a sore thumb

does registax4 take much extra time in doing multi alignment points?

Mike, Mike, Mike....you are setting impossibly high standards. Imaging that fine rille, seemingly at will, despite the poor seeing conditions, is just not on. I can't even grab that sucker under good conditions!

Well it's like passing the same avi through registax again, and doing the align, optimise and stack on EACH alignment point. The benefit is, you just give it one set of inputs (each of the alignment points), and it makes the composite after the stacking process. It still takes quite a while to run through an avi with 10+ alignment points, depending on teh speed of your computer and how much RAM you've got. But it's definitely quicker and easier than doing it manually.

Attached is a screenshot of (your favourite crater Moretus ) what it looks like when you've selected the alignment points. In that example I've selected 12 alignment points of 128px each. Each alignment box can be a different size, if you wish.

Thanks Dennis, but I think focal length helped more than skill in this image. I'm working at approx 7500mm FL, which I believe is a little more than what you image at?? At shorter focal lengths, the seeing will have to be VERY steady in order to capture it, because it will only appear as a very thin line spanning only a few pixels. The higher the resolution, the more pixels it covers and the more chance of getting it to show, even in not as good seeing. On the 31st August, with the 3x barlow in, I couldn't capture it at all because the conditions were quite bad at that time, and the image scale was smaller too.
