Canon EOS 600D Reviews?

Hi all,
I am going to get my first DSLR and so far I'm leaning towards the Canon EOS 600D. Can anybody give me their thoughts and if they have had good times or bad times with this model?
I'm really interested in landscape astrophotography/nightscapes at this point, I won't be doing any deep-sky stuff until I get a more suitable telescope (currently have a Dob). But will also use it for regular photography as well. Just hoping to get some opinions from those who have had, or currently have, the 600D.

Hi Chelle, I used one before moving up to cooled mono ccd's and found it to be a good performer most of the time. It's flip out screen is great for landscapes and when attached to a scope, especially when pointing to zenith!
I found it to be quite noisy when using it for deep space photography, which admittedly was probably the result of using it mid summer with internal temps reaching 35°c plus.

Thanks Chris! Yeah I'll get something different for deep sky, this is for landscapes and Milky Way, that kind of thing

I have been using a 1100d for the past 12 months and that was a huge improvement from the 450d that I was using before. I tried out a 600d the other night and it seems to be even better than the 1100d. The 600d is a clearance camera and there are some great deals around. My daughter got hers (single lens) for $370 (after canon cash back).

Thanks Rick! Yeah that's what I'm going for at the moment, Harvey Norman has it for $422 after cashback with a standard lens

Big W , but I think that sale is over. It was cheaper than the online price for a body only. I think JB hifi has a similar deal to Harvey Norman.

I've had my 600D for a couple of years now and, as an entry level DSLR, have found it to be a good performer capable of producing some quality images. Certainly had no mechanical related problems with it (although I did by a second battery for it as it only comes with one).

Can't comment on the kit lenses that come with it though, as I got the 600D body only, with a Tamron 18-270mm f3.5-6.3 zoom, which I have found to be a reasonable all-rounder lens (again, not top-of-the range, but certainly adequate for my needs to date).

And just last night I ordered an 11-16mm f2.8 Tokina lens, which will hopefully improve my so far mediocre nightscape efforts (hurry up Mr Postman!)

I just purchased it today and will be out in Goomalling tonight so can give it a whirl! I'm very excited, I like Canon products and have heard good things about the 600D, so for a beginner like myself it sounds perfect. I have no qualms getting another lens if the kit lens is sub-par

I had a lot of fun! Still trying to wrap my head around basic DSLR functions but I gave it the old college try anyway and will continue to learn and hopefully improve as I go!

That's a great start! I just noticed you went out to Goomalling, which was not far from where I ventured out for my first dark sky night with my then new 600d :-) lovely dark skies out there.

I used f/3.5, exposure 30 sec, ISO 800 and 18mm focal length for that one

Cheers for the link Chris! I think I need to spend more time with my camera in daylight so that I really know it back to front in order to use it well when it's pitch black
