EQ8 - turning encoders on and off

Those who are in the EQ8 Yahoo group will have seen recent posts praising a small tool (EQ8Tool) released by SW to allow you to turn the encoders on and off. There's a question in that thread asking "Why" and it hasn't been answered. I'm curious and wonder if anyone in IIS has figured it out.

It will be easier to park the mount in any position you want, when the encoders are off.
