Outlook downloading but not uploading
Anyone know why my Outlook (2003) would still be receiving emails but returning an error message when I try to send an email..?

Is this new behaviour in an existing installation, or unexpected behaviour in a new installation or upgrade?
I’m running MS Office 2010 and I authenticate myself (User ID & Password) for incoming mail and also for anything I send. This behaviour is different to my experiences with MS Office 2003 and Office ’97 and it may be something to do with how the e-mail account is set up in Office 2010.
I actually like the compulsory prompt for User ID & Password when sending as it adds that additional level of authentication.
Cheers
Dennis

The only “suspicious” item I have noticed in my 2010 Account Setup is that my incoming e-mail server is a “POP” server whereas my outgoing server is an “SMTP” server?
AS I know next to nothing about these settings, I’ll leave it to the experts on IIS to provide you with a solution Michael – good luck!
Cheers

Mike, I'd be asking the ISP if they have changed the outgoing (SMTP) server or if they have changed the security settings.
If you want to try some debugging yourself install Wireshark and capture the traffic.
Dennis, it is fairly common for the incoming (IMAP or POP) server to be different to the outgoing (SMTP) server.

What does the error say?
Have you changed your ISP account password recently?
The default SMTP port (25) is normally blocked in lieu of their own SMTP server. A way around it is to use the ISP's SMTP servers and authenticating using your ISP account.

Just delete the account and recreate it. That should fix it.
Otherwise, just re-enter your credentials in the account settings and hit the test button.

I use hotmail (outlook) and recently I have received emails asking to confirm my account or my account will be closed. Examination of the email makes it highly suspect so I have just deleted it. I can still access my account.

Barry, just running the mouse over the links in these emails will tell you a lot.
For example. A series of emails purporting to come from Telstra only containing URLs pointing to Russia, Mexico or Columbia.

Yes that is what I did and the URL was not a hotmail/outlook source that I recognised

Gday Mike
Who are you with???
If Ploptus, then yesterday morning, ( and it may be coincidence )
i had exactly the same problem.
The night before i had sent about a dozen emails in a hour
and the next morning, i had a server block on me as being a "spammer"????
I could receive, but not send.
Rang em up and they finally removed the block, but maybe something like that got you too??? Dunno if its something new, or i just exceeded some parameters that an algorithm somewhere didnt like????
Skynet is getting closer.

I had something similar a while back. I reported a spammer to SpamCop. The Spammer used the SpamCop email notification to report me as a spammer to my ISP. The ISP believed the spammer.
SpamCop could not believe that an ISP could be that dumb.
It took several phone calls and emails from a non-blocked account with the details in the SpamCop report to the ISP to get unblocked.

Cheers for the replies guys, much appreciate the feedback
A trojan was sending spam emails from my address, so Spamhause (an international anti spam site) had blocked my address from sending. I subscribed to Telstras Platinum assistance service and an Aussie techo did everything remotely on my computer, cleaned up my files, installed "Malwarebytes" anti-malware software and then had my address removed form the blocked list...the assistance and help was professional, courteous and clear - happy for now ...fingers crossed

Errr, you are unclean, you have been infected with malware, errr. Not kissing you at the star party, I might get infected as well.
So, was that website so good it was worth the infection?
