Synscan: What do you want to see next?

1. Are you happy, not happy with the current firmware and why?

2. What would you like to see added, improved on or removed in the next firmware and why?

I for one, would like to see an improvement in the 3 star alignment, an AutoGuider and a list of Constellations that one can select DSO's from within.

cheers,

J

I'd like to see a Sun object. Having to enable it via some obscure sub-menu with warnings and disclaimers would be okay with me.

Failing that, I'd like to see the ability to define a solar system user object (for objects in orbit about the Sun).

Another thing I'd like to see added is a Digital Readout of Azimuth and Elevation based on your geo location. This DRO is read either in the HC or on the mount.....

Just imagine being able to slew your mount to 169 Deg. compass bearing (true geo south) and then tilt your polar axis up until it reads your latitude!

Another suggestion is having a payload read out The saddle actually measures your payload.which then configs this to the bearings and gears... far flung idea I know, but many thought back in 1911 that humans would not get off the ground, until the Wright Bros proved them wrong...

You can point an EQ mount to alt/az co-ordinates using the telescope object in ASCOM. You have to convert them to RA/DEC, so its a bit of a cheat, but there are astrometry libraries that make that sort of thing straight-forward. It helps to be a bit of a programming nerd though

LOL.. I was suggesting setting an GEM using the DRO of Azimuth and Elevation, not stars.. This future mount would have to have a built-in compass for Az and a built-in digital angle finder to read Elevation...oh yes, we can all dream....

Aparts from bugs fixed I'd like to see an electronic balance aid, like the Meade fork mounts have (or used to have?). The mount could oscillate around an axis and indicate the power draw for either direction as a bar graph on the hand controller. This would make balancing much more accurate and fast than going by feel.

Cheers
Steffen.
