IC 2944 - Running Chicken Nebula

Hi All,

Been a long time since I uploaded my last image.

I have been unfortunately too busy to do much astro related activities and forgot that I had acquired some data on IC 2944 over the months of May and June.

Attached is a HaRGB composite image as well as an inverted Ha image to show the details.

Total exposure time was around 12.5 hours and I lost 10 hours due to planes and cloud.

(I am still working on my spacings for the AT2FF to fix the stars in the corner of the image, so apologies on them)

Cheers
Sam

Nicely detailed pic Sam, but he colour is off. Perhaps it should be called the "Smoked Chicken Nebula"?

My adding in a bright H-a luminance layer it washes out the red and results in a "salmon" coloured image. As I have no experience in getting this right I'll shut up now and let a real expert point you to the best way to blend the Ha with RGB.

Cheers,
Cam

I completely agree, Cam.

I struggled for 2 days trying to get the balance right due to having Ha as the Luminance. I am still yet to find the answer to this..

Edit: Here is another variant I had where I mapped the Ha data to the Red channel ONLY. So I have lost detail in the outer reaches, but the colour is much less pink.
