Unofficial Bandwagon Jumper Thread climb on!

I am creating this thread in fun to give all of those people out there like me who feel the need to now jump on the Australian Soccer Team's bandwagon/coattails.

I freely admit, I have neither followed the sport nor did I get up early/stay up late to watch...and yet, now that they are advancing, I want to bask in the reflected glory too...

I can not name 3 players on the team but I am now for them 100%!

I learned my lesson last year with the Sydney Swans who's bandwagon/coattails I joined at half time of the grand final victory match.

I freely admit I nearly missed out on that one but I was still able to claim victory over my colleagues in other states through my last minute "conversion"...

And while this thread could be used for any bandwagon I am submitting it for soccer this time...so I am showing my hand early this time...

Go Australia in the world cup!

*Note this is meant to be mildly funny and entertaining. I apologise in advance to "true beleivers" who are offended by my being a "johnny Come Lately" fan.

lol Scott.. I've always enjoyed soccer but never enough to watch much of it on TV.

I think the fact that i'm getting up early for these games now counts me in as a bandwagon jumper too.

I do hope that soccer takes off in Australia now though, it's a great game..

I thought soccer was one of those weird unusual games like lacrosse or hockey that you get to play once or twice in PE at high school, and then forget about .

I know what you mean, I am not a soccer fan normally, but I do love the world cup for some reason. Have watched a great deal of the top games in fifa WC ever since 1990 (its only every 4 years anyway) when I was living in england when england made it to the the semi finals that year.
It was the first time they had gone that far since the the 60's, (when they won it). man the buzz was unbelievable, and I caught the virus then!
The streets were deserted (EDIT:when the last games were on) , it was like one of those end of the world movies and the streets of london and every where were completely empty and quiet, very weird experience that stayed with me.
hey we all watch the olympics every 4 years - do you watch track and field/ underwater ballet/ping pong any other time??? so get over it

anyway fantastic blinkin match, I have watched all 3 live so far - Italy next - a top team that is paying very well this time *gulp* and minus emerton *scared* but who knows - YAY! GO SOCCEROO'S!!!!

I'm not a football fan, but the skill level in soccer impresses me, much more so than the other flavours of football.

Soccer usually does nothin' for me but it is great to see Australia doing so well in a non traditional Aussie sport

If you are right, that it's not a "traditional" Aussie sport, it's because we keep describing it and regarding it in such terms.

But I think you'll find it's always been more popular than the fans, commentators and administrators of the more "traditional" sports would like to believe or admit

Don't get me wrong. I love my other footy codes, my cricket, tennis etc

But there's always been massive grass roots support for soccer. It just needs the level of success that this crop of Socceroos is delivering.

Not a huge soccer fan either, but too have jumped on the band wagon.
I must say those Japanese fakies are world class, who would of thought
you could get paid that kinda cash by how well you can grab ya knee

Put it this way even during the Olympics,Rugby Union World Cup, Rugby League World Cup? NEVER have you seen so many Aussies traveling overseas to follow there teams.
They don't call it the WORLD game for nothing, also more Aussie kids play Football than any other sport

Also I should add, I dont mind soccer being called the World Game...
although in my near 40 yrs this is the first time I have ever heard
it called that. Must be a soccer fan thing, because you see Rugby
Union was meant for the select few

Anyway, in spite of my lack of appreciation and understanding of the skill and excitement of the game, I still hope Australia does well...after all, I did "jump on the bandwagon" (last week)
