Nexstar 5SE Price Gouging

Hey guys,

new to all this and thinking about grabbing a Nexstar 5SE. Anyone know of any local channels to get past the eye-gouging Australia tax?

Case in point: Nexstar 5 SE

Australia - AU$1200
US - AU$690

You think that's bad , our poor neighbours over the ditch in NZ are paying $1600 for a 4SE !!! .

Celestron pricing is crazy here... glad I bought mine round the other side

For the same money, you can get a nice goto Dob... I really like the Nexstar I have, but wouldn't pay local money for it.

If you're prepared to wait you might get one for $600-$700 second hand, there have been a couple go in this range via Icetrade. Alternatively if you're prepared to spend a little more Meade LX90 8 inch scopes are sometimes up for sale at good prices. IMO the LX90 is superior to the SE's , the meade tripod is much sturdier and the handbox retains location, time and date settings unlike the nexstar.
