Took a risk, but picked up a bargain scope

Just a thought I'd drop a note as I had to tell somebody I've re-joined the Dob community.

I took a gamble on a recent ebay purchase of a 12" Meade Lightbridge just down the road from me. Sounded alright, came with 2 Televue Type VI Naglers, Meade 26mm QX, 12" Orion Solar Cap, Laser Collimator, 35mm Extension tube and Bobs Knobs.

The eyepiece holder had been broken off, and the altitude brake was a bit bent, but it didn't look too bad in the pictures. So I put a killer bid on with seconds to go, and low and behold I ended up winning the auction well short of what I expected to pay.

When I saw the scope, and checked out the optics I thought you beauty ..... picked up a bargain here ..... for a couple of hundred short of a grand

Have a done a full once over, used the scope a few times, and am extremely happy with my purchase, which will be my quick set-up scope.

Got to say, there are some bargains out there

That doesn't sound like a "newbie" at work to me, but rather a savy astronomer! Time to change your signature? Well done, Paul!

Ah yes - the "sniper" bid - realistically the only effective way left to try and get a good buy on ebay.

Nonetheless, congratulations on the Dob

Bugger, there goes all the good weather for ANOTHER 12 months. He, he he. Good one. I'm at least jealous.

Pretty much on the money plus a tenna

erick .... you got me ..... going to have to update my signature now.

Malcolm .... been thinking about how I'm going to get the 3 scopes to SV Camp in Nov .... might have to hitch a trailer behind the caravan. One of the reasons for wanting the dob is to learn more about navigating the night sky as I'm a bit too lazy with GOTO on the other scopes.

Guys, thanks for the comments. Yeah sorry about the weather.

Got to say I had forgotten just how easy a dob is to move, set up and use. Also having used an 11" SCT for a while, love the wide view of the f5 .... which give a totally different perspective.
