An ex-Beatles guitar has just sold for $419,000. It was a prototype given to John and hardly used - George practiced one song on it and John used it in a film clip - before John gave it away. Yet even this light usage has pushed the value into the stratosphere. I wonder what Paul's Hofner 500/1 'violin' bass or his Rickenbacker 4001S would be worth now? Those are instrument you look at and say 'Beatles'.
