For anyone challenged by the complexities of image processing I found a nice free app that is easy to use and learn and shows the results instantly as you tweak. It also makes it easy to learn the 'curves', ' levels' and other terms and actions that confuse so many with high end Photoshop type apps.

PixBuilder Studio. I think there is only one toolbar it asks to install which can be declined. Seems to handle TIF files from DSS ok.
Certainly good for beginner processors, it's rescued a couple of images I thought were complete losses.
