Tragedy in Newtown, CT USA

All,

Just a quick post to let you all know that my family is safe and sound.

We live just a few miles from Newtown where a horrific school shooting took place this morning. Everyone around these parts are shaken by the events of the day.

Many children lost their lives today...what a tragedy.

Good news and bad at the same time Scott.
I had not heard of the shooting.

And yet guns are still legal to own, crazy.

Heartbreaking. As a new parent, (again) this really hit me hard today. My prayers are with all of them. I pray they find some comfort in all this tragedy and madness.

It's just heart-breaking to hear such stories. Pleased you guys are all safe and sound Scott. But what a miserable day for the unfortunate ones and their families.

What possesses people to do such things? It's just mad.

Glad you and yours are OK.
Such horrible sad news, just thinking of being a parent and realising that you will never see your child again is just so wrong.

I don't mean to be insensitive here ... It's sad enough when emotional driven ' adults ' shoot and kill .... BUT ..leave the children alone.
Sorry ...if anyone took my child in any manner.. I would be after the one who did it .... however long it would take....and I'd be prepared to do ' time ' for it.

Touch either of my 2 daughters...and all ' hell ' will break loose.
I am fiercely protective of my 2 and only girls.

My heart really goes out to these parents .... the grief they must be going through...!!... this is sad ..really really sad.. why do they hurt the children

Please don't reply to what I've said here .... these are highly emotive issues ...and we all have our own way of dealing with them.

With the utmost respect to those who have been affected by this tragedy ...Flash ..,!!

A tragedy beyond belief, I saw this early this morning and could have cried at the senseless slaughter of innocent children and teachers.

I can't help but wonder how long it will be before America wakes up to the fact that having such ready access to guns is not a good thing.

21 years in the Police Force tells me that the criminals will still be able to get guns no matter what, but these mass murders are being committed often by people who have no criminal background and the ready access to automated weapons has to be a big factor in these crimes.

Sadly there are now dozens more families who will never be the same, parents who will never recover.

May they Rest in Peace.

Not being a parent, but, this struck me hard, too. Very tragic, and, very sad.

Hopefully, through this tragedy, perhaps some kind of reform may be on the horizon.

I don't believe words will ever ease the misery for the families who have lost a loved one under these circumstances. At some point in the future changes will have to be made to their gun laws, but I suspect any controls put in place will be too late to be very effective. These events leave me numb.

My sympathy goes out to all those affected families.

I will never understand these extremes of human nature, why people do these things is totally beyond me.

Thanks all for the warm thoughts in the midst of this trajedy.

No doubt there will be no single or easy answer to explain what happened or for that matter an easy or sinlge solution to prevent similar things from happening in the future.

All our hearts should go out to those directly touched by this event. We should also reserve some space in our thoughts for those indirectly impacted as well. It will take some time for the community to heal but it will heal and recover.

Over the coming days as the facts of what happened emerge it will be interesting to see the impact that it will have. Until the facts emerge it can only be speculation and opinion most of which can easily and natuarlly become emotional and heated.

I started this thread as a quick way to let my friends "Down Under" know that while Newtown is very near where I live (we shop in that area) that we were not involved in the trajedy and are all safe and sound.

While we can certainly use a place to vent our frustrations, fears and opinons over this horrific incident I am not certain that this thread or even the IceInSpace Forum is the best place to help us exercise our emotions.

With that in mind and all good will intended, I ask the Moderators to lock up this thread. Thanks All!
