Theres a plastic supplier on the dandy frankston south dandy. I worked there for 3 days and they had everything from bullet resistant to all types of exotics, so search there in the yellowpages. Its a very large place though they should be able to do small orders as they did cut them when i was there.

Hi Malcolm.
What will you be needing the plastic for?
Peter.

Peter
I have acquired a truss tube dob and the plastic on the UTA is a bit less that perfect. As I am planning some other mods to the UTA I Thought I might as well look at fixing it up with Kydex

I have been using a great plastic called styrene.it is 1 mm in thickness, glossy black on one side and flat black on the other. This stuff is rigid
and self supporting and does not sag or move in cold or hot days.I stick it down with good quality double sided tape and does not move.I apply it to the ota when it is cold so it stays in position in all temperatures.I flatten the dull side properly by using a fine wet and dry paper and gives an even very flat finish for inside.
I have put this on my 20 inch Obsession clone and it has been on for 12 years and not moved..A friend also has this on his 16 inch obsession clone and it is fine.It is available in approx 6x4 foot sheets.I am on the mid north coast nsw and my contact here is Plastics factory. 171 Orlando Street, Coffs Harbour NSW 2450 Phone: (02) 6652 8299
You should have a local contact locally.
if you would like me to send you a sample just send me a PM.
Hope this helps
Peter.

Ok ,What I have won't cover that I'm afraid.

Have you tried Peter Reed at SDM, He may be able to sell you some thin ply ,its easy to work with and very flexible.

No worries Graham, thanks for trying! I am thinking Kydex as the scope balances really well but I don't want to add any extra weight to the UTA.
I will see if I can order from Scope Stuff in the US.

Cheers

Kydex dimples like cellulite ,irrecoverably ,the first time it sits in your locked hot car in summer . Neoprene or thin ply is a much better option.

Peter Reid (SDM) no longer uses kydex on his UTAs because of the reasons Mark mentions.

Malcolm, the 1mm plastic that I mentioned is a lot lighter than kydex. Also no painting.
If your worried about weight.
