NGC922 - southern ring galaxy - new Hubble Image

In the southern sky we are fortunate enough to have a true "drop through ring galaxy" that is much brighter than Zwicky's Cartwheel.

This is the galaxy NGC 922, which displays a partial ring that was created by a smaller galaxy passing through the middle of NGC 922

Another (Possible!) ring galaxy in the southern sky is PGC 12706 ( alias ESO 301-011) which is not far from N1316.

I do recall seeing this intriguing little galaxy more clearly in an image of NGC1316 taken by Martin Pugh.
