Epic Eta with ED80.

Up early today to catch the last hour of darkness before the moon is in the way.

The field of the ED 80 and canon 1100D was made for NGC 3372, it's truly epic!!

I'm pleased how this has come up with 56 minutes of data, faint outer extensions of nebulosity clearly visible, even with the unmodded camera.

Equipment.

Skywatcher ED80, orion mini guider, orion field flattener, HEQ pro 5 mount.
Unmodded canon 1100D, 8 minute subs at iso 800, total 56 minutes.
Darks, flats and bias frames applied.
Stacked in DSS and processed in PS7.

I have severe light pollution where I am, so I bought a CLS clip filter-hope it works ok!

Hope it works for you Laurie, I was trawling around myself for filters but decided I didn't really need them. From posts read about LP filters most in light polluted area's say they do help.

Magnificent. Man,am I glad I decided to go the ed80 route to go with the 1100d, You really have been the deciding influence. Mmmm,does that mean I can blame you when I produce crap images?

Amazing for an unmodified camera. I suspect my Pentax K-x cuts off more red than the Canon because there's no way my camera could see that much nebula without a filter.

I was lucky when I purchased the 1100D, I did do some research before buying but more about noise level. It was a bonus that had reasonable response in red.

Great job with the stock camera!

Btw, a very minor point - some of your brighter stars have dark halos around them (sharpening artefact, I suspect). Have you ever tried the trick of creating a layer mask without stars for sharpening, and then replacing the stars afterwards?

Yep, getting a baader fringe killer filter for the ED80, this should get rid of the halo's at the source.
