Want to be involved with some online astronomy outreach?

Hi all,

I've been involved for some time with a weekly online astronomy 'star party' held by Fraser Cain from Universe Today, using the 'hangout' feature of Google+. It seems that they have had a lot of interest for a second weekly show to be held at times more suitable for those of us on the other side of the world from America (and also those with views of southern skies), and they have asked that word be passed around to see if anyone is keen to join in and help. You don't need to have spectacularly high-end equipment (in fact I think they prefer a variety!) - just a telescope and a way to stream an image from it live to the internet.

Following is a copy of the message sent out by Scott Lewis - one of the other producers of the 'Virtual Star Parties':

Calling all astronomers from the other side of the planet from me!

As many of you know, we've been doing the +Virtual Star Party for about a year now with an enormous response from all of you! We've been able to connect more and more people to images of the Universe when they might not have been able to do so before!

Thanks to all of your support, we're looking to expand our reach a little further in the coming months with another Virtual Star Party the day prior, but in a time that allows our friends in other time zones to jump in and show us their perspective. We've already had the great pleasure of featuring some of them in our previous star parties, much to the dismay of their sleep cycle.

So because of that, I'm asking all of you to please contact myself of +Fraser Cain if you or someone you know has a telescope is willing to participate in a second +Virtual Star Party! This is for all of you in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia. If I can get a general feel for the number of astronomers we have now for a future show, it'll allow me to structure out a good time/day for all of this to work out.

Look forward to hearing from you!
If you are interested in helping out, Scott can be contacted either on Google+ (+Scott Lewis), or by emailing him at scott@knowthecosmos.com

Regards,

Teale
