Cairns 2012 Eclipse 40miles at sea

Hi all,

40 miles out at sea was not such a bad idea after all. Mounts and tracking was not an option, hand held photos had to do.

There is no description that can do this experience justice, those who witnessed it know what I mean.

As passionate astronomers I really hope you all get an opportunity to see the next one. Don't think about it just do it!

So amazing seeing proms from standard camera images. It looks like the cruise was a fantastic experience.

It was Pete!

What these images don't show is the colour of the sky at totality, it was platinum but what struck me the most was seeing with my own eyes the solar winds streaming from the edges of the eclipsed sun and moon (that was something else), far more longer and detailed than captured in these images.

Totality close-up

Hoefuly we're not all Eclipsed out ... here is a close up of the Corona and Prominences.

All these images were taken hand held at 200mm with a Canon 60d.

Thanks for looking
