Some help for travellers to eclipse

Hi mates,

we're 13 spanish people interested in astronomy. We're members of aam ( http://www.aam.org.es/ ). We'll travel to watch the next total eclipse to your country, and we'll love to have a night watching the southern sky, in the Alice Springs area or close to Cairns. Can anybody, please, help us to do it?

Paying or free, it would be one of the tops of our trip!

Thanx a lot friends!!

Hi Pablo,

I'm not sure there has been much organised yet for post-eclipse general observing in the Cairns area but you may want to keep an eye on this thread:
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=97922 which is specifically for people/groups who are having observing meetups after the eclipse. I'm sure you'd be welcome at any gathering.

Hope you and your group enjoy the trip.

Hola Pablo ..... gosh, you are leaving it a bit late. There is not much accommodation left in Cairns itself, or the Northern Beaches, you may get some up on the Tablelands, inland from Cairns - Mareeba etc.

Try to pick a few towns in the eclipse zone and see whether there is accommodation available via the Internet.

Alice Springs will not get the total eclipse, though you may want to visit while you are here, the night skies out there are brilliant.

Good luck.

Hi Pablo,

Great to hear you are coming to Australia.

You and your colleagues might possibly be interested in joining a group of thirteen Canadian
astronomers along with some Australian volunteer hosts for two nights observing with large
aperture Dobsonians at Coonabarabran, some 6 hours north west of Sydney on
17th and 18th November. If of interest, please email lachlan@3rf.com.au
for more details. See also http://www.ozsky.org/ which discusses an event to
be held in March but the two nights in November will be a "mini-version" of the same
which can be found here - http://www.3rf.com.au/PESS/

In any case, enjoy your trip!

Best Regards

Hi Gary,

sorry for my late reply, I've been very busy these days.

Yes, we saw the Post-Eclipse Star Safari, but I fear we're leaving before it. We'll end our trip in Cairns and we'll return home on 17th

We'll be in your BIG country from 2nd nov, surely a couple of nights we'll watch your sky and try to name some of the stars and constellations as learners... it's gonna be funny too!

Thanx everybody, and good luck with clouds

Sláinte!
