It depends on how many discoveries there are each year, really. Some years there's only been two or three who've had to share, meaning they get a bigger bite at the time.

Yeah it sounds that way, there are a couple of really great sites about visually hunting down comets.It makes me wish for a good horizon and large dob.

I'm not sure if I believe the $30,000 total prize, its usually quite a bit less. Funny thing is I'm one of the recipients and that amount is news to me - of course I hope it's true - but wonder were Wired got the figures from???

BTW we need more comet hunters in the southern hemisphere.
