Help me identify this dark nebula

Ok the object on the top left hand corner is NGC 3576-the object that Mike Sidonio (strongmanmike) imaged in the last issue of Sky and Telescope..my question is, what is the dark nebula down at the bottom?

also what resource do you go to to find answers to this sort of question? Barnard never looked this far south and I can't seem to find it any resource available to me

Hi,

Had a look on The Sky6 program, found NGC 3576 and the orange and blue star each side of the dark nebula but nothing where the nebula is on your photo. Perhaps someone else will have a more in depth program that lists it.

Will watch with interest.

I used the Interactive Atlas view to Look for it/them. I'm quite new to all this, I have only had the software for a week, but I find it very good, even for a newbie like me.

wow for a so called newbie thats good going. Thanks for the help..Skytools eh? I must look into it. Am also surprised it refers to a chart (25) in Sky Atlas 2000 because I thought I'd gone over this area in SA 2000 with a fine toothcomb..need to go back and check..possibly time for new glasses
