When I was a kid, I saw an old (B&W?) Australian movie, and I'm hoping someone here remembers the title.
It was about a wee boy during the Depression years. His old man was unemployed and an alcoholic. The kid was saving his pennies to buy a bicycle, but his old man took his boy's savings down to the pub one day, so the boy vented his frustration on a pillow with a bat, accidentally K.O.ing his father in the process. Thinking he'd killed him, the kid went bush.
Ring any bells?
I thought it was something like 'Smiley' or 'Snowy' or similar, but IMDb has nothing.
There were a couple of old "Smiley" movies I think one was "Smiley Gets a Bike" and another "Smiley gets a Gun". I don't remember the story but I think the movies are available on DVD .
I am looking for another old Australian movie called "Sons of Mathew" or the "Rugged O'Riordans" as it was also called. One of my cousins was in it and one of the boys in my class at school also. Filmed mainly in the Cairns area
Yes, I think it was also Smiley with Chips Rafferty and if I remember correctly it was followed by another movie called "Smiley Gets A Gun". Oh dear, I am showing my age now
