14mm Delos first light

The latest/final Delos models are in stock at Bintel. I know this because I got carried away and bought the 14mm today, despite the fact that a 13mm Nagler is en route to me from an IIS member in WA! Sometimes a new toy just has to be NEW.

Used the 14mm tonight with my new-to-me Skywatcher 200mm f/5 Newtonian. I'm no expert on reviewing eyepieces, but it performed superbly. Stars seemed sharp across the whole field. Occasionally I'd see a star near the edge that wasn't quite sharp, but this seemed to be due to my eye not being in quite the perfect position as a tiny movement would bring it back to sharpness. I also have slight astigmatism that may have played a part.

The main thing for me was the comfort of 20mm of eye relief. When I moved up to my 9mm Nagler T6 I felt I had to work a bit harder to get the best view. I have a used 13mm Nagler coming and I'll be keen to compare this with the Delos.

I'm glad I made this impulse purchase!

Nice to hear Morton. I have used the 6mm Delos a few times now, and while i don't anticipate it getting a lot of use (250x is pushing it IMHO) it is a nice bit f kit. Although the eye relief is very nice it is subject to blackouts. Have you found this with the 14mm?

Malcolm
PS Glad to hear that you have found another 13mm Nag!

Hi Malcolm.

Once I got the adjustable eyeguard at the right height I didn't have any blackout problems.

Cheers

I found the ayeguard useful for that also, the interesting thing was that when I used it on my little SolarMax 60, moving the eyeguard actually made it worse! At night it was fine but in day I needed it all the way down.
Interesting.

That is interesting Malcolm. I'll need to try it out in the daytime in my 80mm scope. Maybe next weekend.

I am thinking that the issue is that in daylight, my pupil is a lot smaller and that increases the blackout. Cannot see any other factor that would affect it.
It appears to confirm that the blackouts are a bit more prominant in the Delos as I have not had any issues with Ethos (10 and 13mm) or Naglers (7mm T6 or 13mm T6) in my Solar Max.

I can't remember any blackout issues with my 13 t6 , my 14 xw did have a few though , with the eyeguard close to fully extended I always had to centre the view with a thumb and forefinger each side
on my eyebrow and cheekbone to avoid blackouts.
