NGC 1269, barred ringed galaxy.

Hi,

NGC 1269 is a barred ringed galaxy in Eridanus mag 9.4.
Tried to find other images, not too many around which is surprising, it's a wonderful looking object.

Image, 8 minute subs at ISO 800 a total of 136 minutes.

It would interesting to see this imaged by higher resolution setups.

Cheers,

Justin.

Certainly looks interesting Justin and you've done a good job although I think the magenta could be toned down a bit. Might have a go at this one myself once I fix my current telescope problems.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks Steve!

I think it may a case of monitors with the magneta, backed off in selective colours, both in magneta and magneta in cyan with this image.

Nice galaxy image does look a bit blue-magenta but I don't mind it.

Looks like you could sharpen the field a bit more, intention to keep the stars slightly soft?

What pixel scale is your setup at? (and what focal length?)

Hello Justin, great shot of an unusual object - thanks for drawing my attention to it, I'll have to put it on my to-do list! I have a new graphics monitor (Dell U2410) and the whole field does appear to be a bit magenta to me also. Maybe try turning the blue & red down (or green up) in the Colour Balance tool?

Good to know, that's three in magneta.
Need to calibrate my monitor before attempting adjustments on the image.

Yes I like the images a bit softer, my preference.

My pixel scale is 1.47" x 1.47" per pixel focal length 800mm 8" f/4.

Cheers,

Justin.

1.47" isn't bad. Considering it's quite a featureless galaxy I don't think you'd gain much from focal length. Perhaps other specrums are required to get something more? That would be an interesting experiment

Here (attached) is my NGC survey shot of it, taken at 0.86" (2190mm FL), it's 10x30sec. Taken in 2009.

Thanks for that Roger!

It's more so the outer ring which could do with more resolution and larger aperture.

This link http://www.capella-observatory.com/I...es/NGC1291.htm is the best image I've found using a 60cm scope at 1800mm.

Cheers,

Justin.

Ahh, I see, that does indeed need aperture and exposure time 60cm, nice!
