Jupiter - Better seeing

A quick and dirty run through Registax.

Here's Jupiter from 11pm this evening.

It was a bit windy early on but settled down a bit.

I think we got slightly better seeing tonight here in Canberra. Stars still twinkling a bit though. Perhaps 4-5/10.

Transparency 4/10, with high humidity and plenty of thin high cloud.

But for a quick run through Regi I'm quite happy. No GRS or Red JR, but hey... I'm just stoked to be imaging again after such shocking weather lately.

Io is also a crisp little disc.

Hi Matt

That is an excellent capture with heaps of detail. The image data looks very rich and you have avoided the dreaded onion rings - well done.

Once I got to the quality of image you produced above, the next two steps that teased that extra bit of sharpness was using Striker’s JMI ex-motofocus and having spells of seeing so good that during avi capture, I could see the white spots more or less continuously, steady and in real time on the notebook display. In fact, I often focus on these white spots, which gives an indication that the avi will produce a good final image.

If you are still using the OEM focuser on the C9.25, I take my hat of to you!

Cheers

Dennis

PS - I originally thought David meant the trots.......

Good one Matt!

Looks slightly over processed to me...but that could be because I'm not used to seeing images on an LCD monitor..

Thanks guys.

Yeah. Quite happy with this one. It does tend to suggest things are coming together a little more.

When I get time for a more thorough process I'll see if I can take a little of the "heat" out of the saturation.

Dennis - yes, we're still using the manual stock focuser which came with the 9.25. What does 'OEM' stand for, by the way?

I'm already weighing up the various pros and cons of a number of electric SCT motor focusers and expect to place an order fairly soon.

As for the seeing? I plan on making some sort of ritualistic sacrifice to the weather Gods .... also fairly soon!!!!!

And here's one with a little rgb split and AstraImage process action we've just completed.

What do you think. This one better? Or the prior post with just the wavelets backed off a tad?

PS - Has anyone figured out how to recombine the stacked RGB images without the histostretch that automatically applies when you convert to greyscale in AstraImage????

Cheers

Hmmmmmmm.....The one prior to this with waveletts backed off looks better at full size, but your last one posted looks better as a thumbnail.

Can't please everyone 100% of the time, they all look pretty good Matt given the conditions!

Hi Matt

OEM = "Original Equipment Manufacturer" meaning as it came from them, without any modifications or accessories. Sorry for that, it's a term much used in the aerospace and electronics industries.

Cheers
