HI folks, can i use a DMK21AU04.AS.camera with my 14.5 inch sdm dob, to do spectroscopy?
what problems am i likely to encounter?

Slitless grating spectroscopy (Star Analyser/ Rainbow Optics) is certainly possible.
Jack Martin prepared is Atlas of Bright star spectra using a SLR camera and a 12" dobbie.
The field rotation will limit you to the brighter stars...but it is a start.
It's not really feasible to use an undriven dobbie for serious spectroscopy using a slit spectroscope.
Hope this helps.

Ah... Hi Julian.

Sorry I moved your last post, I thought you were asking about AP.

As Ken said you should be able to do some bright low resolution spectroscopy with a StarAnalyser. The trick is to rotate the star analyser so it spreads the spectrum at right angles to the direction of drift. That way the spectrum is spread out in width without blurring the detail in the spectrum.

14.5" aperture will help though.

Al.

i was thinking of using a screw on filter greating from Rspec

That's OK. If it isn't an SA or RO then it'll work the same in theory. The onlydraw backs if it isn't an SA or RO might be the achieveable dispersion and the efficiency. Do you have any details?

How many lines per inch grating density?

Is it blazed?

Al.

The grating available from RSpec is the SA100. Blazed and 100 L/mm.
