Thanks Asi, reckon I am an optimist so whenever it looks remotely like the seeing might be ok I give it a try.

Also, what software do you use for creating the animations. I noticed the reference to WinJUPOS. Do you use other software as well? I would like to give it a try using my Meade LX90.
Cheers,

Hi Mark & thanks for your comments. If you have a look at my website from the link at the bottom of my posts you can check out my setup. From the resources link here on IIS there is some excellent info on getting started with imaging. Over the years I have used different software for processing. At the moment it depends on how good the conditions are and if I capture in 8 bit avi or 16bit fit format. Anthony Wesley has some very interesting software that he wrote and is available here on IIS. For avi capture Castrator & AutoStakkert 2 work well. AS 2 clearly does a better job regarding multi point alignment & stacking than Reggie Stax6. However I still use RS6 to apply wavelet sharpening mostly although occasionally I do that in Astra Image Pro, which I also use to apply decon sharpening and to merge my RGB channels. Photo Shop CS4 is where I finish my processing and annotate my data prior to posting. I have been dabbling with the derotation process in WinJUPOS but that is quite involved and takes considerable time. Mostly I do my animations using a very old PSP that has "animation shop" within it. If I have the time and enough data I sometimes use WinJUPOS to make my animations.

Thanks Ivan, the IR is certainly going to be our savior this apparition and the next, for Jupiter.

Thanks Derek, certainly so very different than last year when the SEB faded from view.

Thanks Mark, I am meticulous with my collimation, if a imaging session requires me to flop the scope during the session or if it extends more than a couple of hours, I recollimate my scope. Prior to the session I collimate with the scope pointing at where it will be mid session and then check the collimation swinging the scope to where it would be about an hour before and after that point.
