Uranus - Sep 30th

I continue to try to image some surface detail on Uranus. The seeing did not cooperate last night, but I did get enough data to put together a composite image including the brighter moons.

The planet itself is an IR-RGB image, the IR being a 3600 frame stack from a 7200 frame AVI, 0.25 s exposure time, 3.75 fps (32 mins of video!).

The moons are from a 20 frame stack of 2s exposure time, heavily contrast stretched, and artificially apertured (basically, the relative brightness and positions are accurate).

I include a screen capture from WinJUPOS showing the orientation of the system at the time of capture.

Here's hoping for improved seeing some time soon!

That's a great image Ivan.

What sort of equipment are you using to capture Uranus?

Thanks Trevor, it seemed OK, but I was pursuing another target that night. Too many fun targets, not enough sleep -- I think I need to retire!

Thank you Trevor, I will be working on this planet for a while, so hope to get some good images.

HI Ric, I'm using a C11 'scope with a DMK21AU04.AS mono camera. For the RGB images I'm using Orion RGB filters. For the IR images I'm using a Custom Scientific photometric "I" filter. This has a 50% cutoff range of 740 nm to 1020 nm, with peak transmission of 85% at 820 nm. Possibly a bit long for the sensitivity of the camera.

Thanks Ray, still waiting for the jetstream to die down a bit. We really seem to be under it down here.
