Video Astronomy

Hi guys,
My father is looking to team up a Skywatcher goto dob with a camera of some type for ~real time viewing on a monitor.

I have no experience in this area but from my reading on the matter from a few years ago I straightaway thought of the G-star cameras, however I'm wondering what else is on the market for similar $$, ie $400-$500.

Colour would be great, but really overall image quality is most important I guess.
Any thoughts or advice would be much appreciated!

I must admit to being partial to the G Star Ex. I spent many an hour observing on the big screen with mine.
Others have used a colour Samsung Security camera, not sure what model though. Ken (Ballarat Dragons) would be able to help you with that.

You just missed out on a G Star Colour in the classifieds.

Yes, I saw that!
Have you ever compared yours to a colour model?

The mono version is more sensitive than the colour.
But it's nice to be able to see colour in the brighter nebs.

You can also modify cheaper samsung cameras (around $150) and get quite reasonable results.

$150? I thought the Samsung that was used was a fair bit more than that?
