Jupiter GRS Sept 1st

Hi All,

Imaged Jupiter this morning in reasonable conditions for the alt, pretty similar to the previous morning. The GRS is nicely positioned in this data as is Oval BA which is drawing ever closer to it.
Have attached 1 R, RGB & 742nm IR data set along with animations of all data.

Thanks for looking.

Regards
Trevor

The two spots are great - I did not recall they were so close - looking forward to more!

Thanks Ray, gives me some hope that even next year when Jup will be a tad lower, given reasonable conditions, it will still be possible to resolve relatively fine detail.

Thanks Matt, thus far this apparition Oval BA has been slowly catching up with the GRS and over the next few weeks will overtake it. Will be interesting to see what effect, if any, that will have on either structure.

These are great for the altitude of this opposition Trev. Only another two apparitions and it will get better. For now this is good.

Beautiful image, and that Oval BA looks huge! It will sure be interesting to see what happens once they pass each other.

Great shots. I've got to get into this planetary imaging one day.

Thanks Paul, yep, not that long until we will have front row seats for Mars, Jupiter and Saturn, OZ will be the place to be for sure.

Thanks Rolf, the passage of Oval BA past the GRS will likely be un spectacular, but you just never know.

Thanks Greg, over the next several years Saturn will continue South and end up at an alt of approx 80 degrees with the rings wide open. Both Jupiter and Mars will also end up far South by about 2016 so it is a great time to think about getting into some planetary work.

Do yourself a favour and don't. It is cold and long hours of sitting watching a screen and waiting, hoping and praying the seeing improves. If you love frustration then this is the side of imaging that will appeal to you. Big scopes, fast cameras and fast download. That is what you need, and a boat load of patience.
