Got Jooped by the weather, anyway got 1 Avi. 10fps captured for 60 seconds PF of 14" SCT Meade. Processed in Registax 3 and very little done in Adobe Photoshop.
Still looks blurry even at 60 seconds, so its not rotational smear. I'm guessing tube currents due to primary not at ambient, perhaps along with bad seeing. Anyone agree with this?
What was the seeing Lester. You said 6-7/10 but did it look that way on screen?
Could also be focus. Pretty hard to get focus without sufficient image scale.
The seeing wasn't as good as the previous night which I gave a 4/10, only slightly worse plus dodging cloud. Its just that I am learning all this and with a bit of repatition I may improve.
If I was a old hand at this I wouldn't have bothered, you know what it is like once you have captured a good one nothing less will do.
The tube not being at ambient temperature also would be against me.
Hi Lester, reckon the ambient temp thing and associated tube currents as Asi mentioned would be the main culprit. 14in would be great for resolution, but imagine your cooldown time would be double say that required for a C9.25. Have you considered a Cat-cooler like Asi's?
Yes I have considered a cooler like Asi's, until I heard about the peltier type, now I am not too shaw which way to go. With the cat cooler you have to be carefull that you are not blowing moist air into the tube. The Peltier appeals to me because it is not doing that but just cooling the trapped internal air. I would like to know how efficient a peltier would be if it was mounted on the casting behind the mirror externally. Or would a cat cooler be far quicker and blowing moist air isn't an issue.
If someone can answer these questions I will be very grateful.
No one has simply tried attaching the peltier to the back of the SCT without drilling holes etc I don't think Lester, but I will be experimenting with this soon.

Yes, I'll be experimenting with the esky idea & the other idea you had Lester about just bunging the unit on the back. If your idea works it'll be the best thing since sliced bread! No holes etc. It's also more like 'active cooling' than the esky. Perhaps a combo of the 2 ideas may work too....food for thought until I receive the peltier.
