Lazy Sunday at the Beach

Today was such a beautiful day we headed down the coast and visited Fingal Head, just south of the Tweed River/Gold Coast.

I bought an old Pentax k-mount 28mm lens for $10 on eBAY to play with on the QHY9 (for widefield astro work) recently, and decided to see how it went in full manual mode on the 450D. Took me a while to get a feel for focus and metering, but salvaged a few "old fashioned" shots without fear of trashing a more expensive lens at the beach (ahem, not that any of my other lens are particularly worthy compared to the pedigree frequently used in this forum). Spent some time finally figuring out how to shoot AEB which should be handy come eclipse time (reading the manual is too easy )

Had lots of fun shooting portraits of the kids at f/2.8 to f/4'ish and was fun to be able them at fast shutter speed and low ISO in afternoon light doing some fooling about. Hopefully this will recharge the batteries for another "week at the office"
See if you can spot the token "astro pic" in here.....

Thanks Liz and Jeanette. We hadn't been to Fingal for years - was a spur of the moment thing. Last time we visited Dreamtime beach I seem to recall a very different situation - howling 30 knot South Easterly with foam almost a metre deep piled up against the rocks!

Bit nicer this time
Didn't see any dolphins or whales, but then didn't try too hard.
