BOSS Supernova 37

Well, what can I say..Congratulations again Stu!!!

He has managed to find no less than 3 new supernovae in 7 days!! I just can't believe how he does it? This is number 29 for him.

His latest discovery is in NGC7531, it's at a relatively bright magnitude 14.7 in very pretty spiral galaxy in Grus.

At this stage, I have measured the position and brightness, and lodged a report on the CBAT Transient Object Page, so once again, we are in the nail biting period while we wait for confirmation by a spectrum.
Hopefully, this is a relatively close and bright one, so it should be picked up by the professionals and confirmed for us.

Now the wait...will keep you informed...

Yes this is great news. We are having a good run lately. With Greg’s quick reporting and my conformation things ran pretty smooth. Here is my first image seeing is poor due to full moon etc and I need some sleep before work in 2 hours!!!
This is a really pretty galaxy a long exposure would look pretty cool
Thanks again to all the BOSS guys
Stu

Amazing, Congratulations to you all.
A real inspiration and just shows how much 'amateurs' can really contribute.

Some images of NGC 7531

Here are three images of NGC 7531:

(1) From the online version of the Carnegie Atlas of Galaxies:
(2) From the online version of the De Vaucouleurs Atlas of Galaxies
(3) From the Carnegie-Irvine Galaxy Survey

This galaxy is formally a member of the LGG 472 group of galaxies
, together with the famous Grus Triplet/Quadruplet and a few other galaxies.

The relatively nearby (in the sky) NGC 7410, which was recently imaged by SteveC and shown in the Imaging Forum, is not usually regarded as a bound member of LGG 472 group, due to a ~180 km/s velocity difference from that of the group. However, most of the bright galaxies in Grus belong to a large-scale physical feature, part of a "wall" of galaxies .
