Informal Observation Sessions
Hi all,
I live a long way from my club's two dark night sites. It's quite annoying to look at the sky during the day and see it looking not good only to have it fine up and be very nice when it's too late for me to pack my gear up and drive to the sites (like last night for example!).
So, I've been thinking about searching for a possible nearby location (say a 20-30 minute drive time) where I could quickly get to and get some observing in at times when it's not a new moon or when bad weather turns good. This would also allow me to get in some observation on the weeknights for a few hours instead of waiting for the weekend.
I live in the Parramatta area, close to Carlingford actually. So, is there anyone here who lives in the surrounding areas that would be willing to share email/mobile and may know of a place where we could safely and comfortably be able to set up our scopes for informal observations. Obviously there is a lot of light pollution around so I'd not be expecting to see the faintest of fuzzies but it would be a chance to get the scope out and look at some of the old familiar objects on a more regular basis.
Personally I'd prefer to observe with others, it makes for nice evenings especially when the sessions would be informal. I'm not biased against imagers or visual observers and if we got a few regulars we could even get some sort of sidewalk astronomy going on so the public could have a look at some cool stuff.
Anyway, that's my rant. If anyone is interested please post up here or PM me and we can see what we can get going. There's no time frame, just something that may get some of us city bound observers out a bit more.
