Snakes and Pipes.....a wide view

Hello,

My second widefield from the last new moon, again taken with an old Nikon E series 100mm F2.8 lens on a QHY8L ccd.

It is a photo of the Snake and Pipe Nebula neighbourhood.

It was my first opportunity at a dark site since March....it has been a lean year!

What do you think?

Thanks for looking.

Nice work Ross, this gives me some hope for plans I have with the QSI683 and my Nikkor primes in the coming months. I really like the detail you have captured and the colours of the star field.

Lovely image, Ross! I have been thinking about imaging the same area with a 100mm Zeiss and STL11K this coming weekend. Not sure if I'll get to it or not. So many targets and so little time

Cheers,
Rick.

That looks very impressive Ross. That lens is working well there.

There is a small amount of chromatic aberration in the brighter stars as shown in the magenta stars. All my lens images show this as well, in fact more than yours. The selective colour tool in Photoshop working on the magentas helps get rid of this especially if you select the stars out first.

Thanks Mario. Trying to get the colour "right" was an ordeal

Many versions before I was happy.

Hi Greg,

Thanks, I'm glad you like it. I have been very lucky with this lens.

I'd be interested in your technique to remove the CA.

Hi Justin,

Thanks. Yes, this lens seems to have the ideal FOV for this part of the sky.
I'm happy you like the colour as this took up the majority of time I spent processing the image.

Hi Mike,
I'm very happy that you like it.

However, all I can see is a dinosaur...no horse!

Hi Rick,

Thank you.

Yes, it's such a target rich area, especially with the FOV given by a 100mm lens. You should get some amazing wide photos with the STL11K.

Good luck.

Thanks Paul.

The quality of the Nikon lens has been a pleasant surprise.
Good luck with yours. You should get some amazing photos.
