down and out for a while with asthma attack.

If I have not responded to your emails,or phoned back,or sent parcels, with various people here.I am down and out for a while-had a nasty asthma attack,(have not had asthma for years). So will be a while to at least a bit better, the ventolin puffers I had the night it happened were out off date,so that did not help.Ended up getting carted off.

Not good to hear Chris.

What set you off? Cold dry air that we haven't seen for a couple of years?

Bummer, I've always been thankful that I don't suffer from asthma.

Hope you are breathing easy soon.

I've mostly avoided asthma but my father was a very bad asthmatic. He was hospitalised a few times and I have very strong memories of fearing he would die. It's horrible watching someone struggle for breath. So you have my complete sympathy.

Asthma can be caused or triggered by many things - or combinations of things. Junk food scarcely existed in those days and certainly wasn't within our budget. But there was spray paint and fine particulates at work, dust mites at home, pollen in the garden and overarching financial stress. Once he fell ill any of these things could set him off. He then developed exthma and at one point was allergic to his own sweat. Of course there are behavioural measures one can take, including diet, but there is no silver bullet.

My step father had bad asthma and a few times I had to call the Ambo's to come help me when he had an attack whilst my mum was away.

Get well Chris. I suffer from bad asthma and have done for years - so has most of my family and parents. It's not a good feeling and it drains the life out of you when you struggle to breath.

Correct David, there is no 'silver bullet' - my parents have suffered since their childhood (in the 40's and 50's) and they all came from rural lifestyles - fresh food, water and air - and plenty of all three mind you. So none of the obvious 20th/21st century triggers for them back then.

The three nasties often go together - asthma, hayfever and eczema. When you have all three, Winter and Spring are not nice times of the year.

To everyone with asthma - keep your puffers close by, take your preventers as prescribed by your Doc!

Cheers,
Russ

Thanks all,Yes David-part of the trigger.I have been feeling unwell, and then bang the cold dry air was the last bit.

Feeling better, but I'll have to adjust a few things.Have not had asthma for many years, but will need to be more aware of it,and managing it.

And it's a reason why I don't get out to observe much in the Winter - Cold air triggers the asthma in an instant. I seem to think it has got worse as I have got older (now mid 40's).

I also understand Australia has one of the highest asthma rates in adults in the world!

Yes the Brisbane area is apparently the worst too.
My brother and I both suffer and Wattle pollen got my brother when he came to stay so badly that he's never been back. He lives in UK and hadn't had asthma for 30 years.
I never go anywhere without my Ventolin and my Beclovate!

I use Symbicort as a preventive and salbutamol for active control. I smoke 30 cigarettes a day, work with cement and haven't had any major issues since i was 15. Before i was 15 i was placed into hospital 3 times for nearly a month each time. Its all about control, eat the right foods, keep fit i use to do 30mins - 1hr on a treadmill at 7kmh and keeping in contact with your G.P.
I have found the only day's i'am screwed on are spring days and just before it rains is still a tad hard with coughing and wheezing. Anyhow chat with your G.P. or find a good one because the best thing is being preventive
