Full disk mosaic 5 August

This is my largest mosaic so far. 14 panels used in all at ulta high resolution. Etalon setting looks good but there is always room for improvement.

Take a good look around, there are spicules visible on the limb in various places as well as some nice proms. The active regions are particularly interesting to look view.

Warning 2mb on image.

Looks outstanding on my Hi-Def monitor, a real masterpiece. It was a great feeling to hover on the solar disc through your mosaic.

The connections between the tiles is seemless, color mapping is perfect and the sharpness is very uniform over the whole the mosaic.

I can say that your HR mosaic is one of the best I've seen so far.

Congratulations Paul, you made it !!

Fernando

Beautiful Paul very good image, compliments you made the mosaic recovering surface protrusions together or making movies separately?

Nice one Paul. I'm just not sure on the processing of the proms around the outside. On the top half of the sun, there's a red glow that extends out, but that's not present on the bottom half.

A stunning image Paul. The image scale and detail are something special; it begs for a larger display so the whole disc can be consumed in a single visual feast without the need to scroll around!

You’ll soon be needing an astronomy assistant soon to manage and crunch all that data!

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks guys I really appreciate your comments.

Fernando I have been trying to get that seamless feel in this mosaics for some time. I still think there is a misalignment in the etalon is just a couple of spots, but overall this is one of my better efforts.

Hiresale each movies is taken separately at 1 minute increments. I have to use a RAM drive to record all the frames possible, so this takes about 30 seconds to discharge between each avi. That gives me time to position for the next panel. Overlaps of each panel are about 20% and probably need to be around 30% for maximum effect. One thing that needs to be borne in mind is that the panels have to be completed as quickly as possible to minimise movement in the features.

Mike, yes this is an issue that is not recoverable. Two things compounded this problem. The top panels were cloud effected and this made those darker. When the autoblend took place it made the top panels appear lighter in the space section. I could do a mask and try to make all the sky appear uniform. If this image gets entered in any competitions I will certainly address the flaws but I am hoping to produce much better results yet.

Dennis, yes an assistant would be good. This took nearly 11 hours to process. 8 hours was taken up in stacking of the panels. Perhaps zoomify needs to be added to my images?? At a smaller scale though the newton's rings I have in the image can be seen though. I will have to address this with the camera. I am uncertain how I will do this as the cover glass appears to be stuck over the sensor and this is what is causing the rings. Thoughts?

Very impressive Paul, as expected. I agree with Mike, the outer edge seems "soft", for Gods sake don't take that as a criticism though, comment. Stunning detail all round.
I find myself baulking at a 4 panel, and con't comprehend the work involving in 14!!!!!

Criticism is good Gary, it makes for good learning. I am not sure why the outer edge seems soft, perhaps something in the stake. It is possible the air was a little wobbly.

Actually 14 panels is easier in a way than 4 panels. It takes a lot longer but the joins are easier to deal with.
