LRGB of 3x180 secs exposure of the core of 47 Tucanae.

Hello,

Whilst waiting for the dawn gathering of Venus, Jupiter, Aldebaran, the Pleiades and Hyades, I whiled away the time practicing auto guiding at the native focal length of the Mewlon 180 F12, which is 2160mm on my EM200.

I didn’t get it quite right as the stars seem to have a “shield” profile and I think this might be due to chasing the seeing as the conditions were pretty awful.

Anyhow, here is an LRGB of 3x180 secs exposure (SBIG ST2000XM & CFW9) of the core of 47 Tucanae, an experimental exercise rather than a genuine endeavour!

Cheers

Dennis

Nice one still. True - the seeing has been shocking lately.

Not sure if you're colour balance is right yet Dennis. Have you tried calibrating with a G2V star?

While it's been clear skies in recent days, I have to agree the seeing has been poor...

Hi Dennis,

It looks slightlt green on my monitor, but still a good photo with nice detail.

Thanks for the comments guys.

@David and Ross – calibrating my RGB filters/sensor combination is still on the to-do list.

I’ve just migrated my guide set up from a side-by-side configuration (which produced quite variable results), to a guidescope mounted on the OTA rings in an attempt to poke my head above 2 metres again. The autoguiding seems to have improved although there are still a few things that need attention.

Despite the dodgy seeing conditions, the recent series of clear nights has been helpful in applying lessons learned the night after they were learned, rather than having to wait weeks between sessions.

Cheers

Dennis

Yeh I think you need to check the colour again Dennis, it's very green.

Very sharp though! Look forward to the next one.
