The return of Saturn 20-2-05

Ok I've had a bit of a play with some of the other avies and have picked the best of them. For some reason though there seems to be a fair amount of green around the polar region.

An interesting thing I found out is that Registax doesn't like avies over about 2000 images. It keeps giving the message of "Can't decompress avi" I decided to try Rumples Riot suggestion of avies 3000 frames long. Poor old laptop nearly pooped itself handling 640 res avies that long. I ended up chopping a couple of the avies up into more manageable bits in Virt Dub.

The following are the best three. The two larger ones were taken at the 640 res setting on ToUcam. I haven't removed any poor frames in any of them. The 3000 framers I broke up into sections of 500 frames, 1000 frames and 1500 frames. Then combined those three bmps in reg3 to produce the final image. Only PS work has been to reset the black point. I may have been a bit hard on the smaller image with some of the Reg3 processing. I've also used a reference frame of 10% of total frames for each one. I've found this makes a big difference to the final product

Wow the first Aussie to produce this sort of result. Well at least i think that you are. Truely amazing mate, I can see hints of the F ring and the crepe ring. Bet you are really chuffed. I know that I would be.

The "F ring" is just a processing artifact, but the crepe ring is a definite!

Yes I'm very happy with them. But I think I can do better with them. If I get some time on the Wednesday night or the weekend I'll do a proper job of processing them. Do you have any idea how long it takes to go through a 3000 frame avi in virt dub and delete the poor ones. Assuming about 2- 3 sec for review, decision, delete or move on that's 2.5 hours. By the time I finish that I'll be as drunk as a Lord No processing tonight. It's beautiful up here again. Might put in another couple of hours.

I'll tell you what I am chuffed about Paul. And that's this little 8" Meade, its such a sweet little planetary scope. It has its moment like all children but you can't help but want to give it a cuddle.

Thats some great detail you've captured there Paul!! Cant wait to see my barlow getting it on with your Toucam Should produce to great shots. Lets hope the clear skies stay till then - that means no more buying stuff Striker, you hear!!
