I sold some New Guinea Rosewood,a while back,it mostly a lovely golden brown honey colour,but occasionally its red-the most beautiful exquiste red like no other timber I have ever seen,I have selected amount for special projects-the chap who bought the bundle of regular coloured rosewood,told me he made Native American Style Flutes.
He bought some up as samples,they looked great-but sounded better.I asked if the red version of the timber would make good flutes,he really wanted to buy some,but I traded some of the rare red boards in exchange for having him craft me one.As I was intrigued.
Anyhow,it arrived a while back,and I'll never get time to learn how to play this beautiful instrument-its not massed produced-its made from one single piece of timber-been bored out with a modified rifle boring machine-each flute is individual-even down to the block on top-he knew I was into astronomy and put a loose representation of planets/sun (sorry its got Pluto).
So,a very unique instrument out of exotic and rare timber,really should belong to someone who really knows how to get the best out of it.
So up for sale for $395 comes with instructions,hand made woollen sock.Its a whisper over 2 ft long, (600 mm)

I'll do a price drop on this,just to move it on.This is a 'one-off' flute in this
timber-so a fairly reasonable price,nearly all bought ones are two pieces of timber joined along middle-this is made from one single piece of timber.
$365 includes postage and packing-Australia wide.
(if the representation of Pluto is causing an issue for astronomers or astrologers I can put some red wax putty-to make Pluto disappear)
I have no idea how to play any musical instruments,all I can say its held in a downwards direction,the silver coloured ones which students at my old school were held out to the side,so guess this may have been European,so if that's the case,its different.

I was born in a musical desert , so its no good for me , but I do like nice hand made wooden things . And this certianly is . .

Its made by a chap in Brisbane,who's name is David Hogan,he is very passionate about these,and has done a considerable amount of research on them.He has got a rifle barrelling machine and modified it,so they can be made with one piece of timber,most on sale are two pieces of timber.These that he makes are not mass produced.He occasionally sells some to various
shops=and they sell fast-but has no plans to give up his day job,its more a passion,than a money making enterprise.
I've had a fair bit of interest in this flute (its way under priced),and I;ll try and get time to get the macro lens out and and take some more images,for the other people asking.
The timber really is special,its the most beautiful red,his regular flutes are the sandy/light brown version of this timber,so this one is a one off.
Hi Chris again , but is David Hogan the one who made this origonally from New Zealand ? If you dont know its ok , its just I remember a guy by that name from a many years ago that was a wood worker in NZ Native timber and a muso ? .

Do not know Brian,all I know is he was a nice chap that bought a bundle of the rosewood I had advertised on IIS quite some time ago,we did the transaction,and a further deal on the red version of the timber.I think he is a policeman,and enjoys make these as a release from that stressful job.He did not speak like a New Zealander.
