Thanks for posting Mark. A very interesting article and surprising in the place observatories have been located. Sadly, light pollution is constantly encroaching on more modern observatories too, so expect to see more abandoned observatories, sadly.

Definitely sad to see them go that way.

I suppose as amateur astronomers we like to think that they will be there forever, but as the story said war, politics, light pollution, money etc all takes it toll.
