An Olympic Torch in Vela

I took this over several nights. I ended up only using less than half the data but its still about 6 hours worth.

Ha and O111 bicolour image of the Pencil Nebula. I was surprised by the ball of Ha nebula to the side with some ripples in it as well.

CDK17, FLI Proline 16803, 5nm Ha and O111 filters, PME mount.

That's a stunning image Greg. Really appeals technically and aesthetically. Great contrast and colour particularly catches my eye.

Great image of the pencil nebula!

Brings back memories of seeing parts of it through Ian Bedfords 30" scope.

Wow! That is top notch Greg. I love how gaseous the nebula is and the colours are beautiful. I notice with PBase that when the original is bigger than the large size for display, the website has it's own compression when it automatically produces the large size image which in turn can make it look a little over sharpened (or is it just my monitor?)

So I always look at the original on PBase and it is spot on!

Cheers JJJ. It does have a lot of fine tendrils which remind me of the Veil Nebula. Too bad we can't pick that one up easily.

A lot of images lose a bit when posted smaller. That's why I like to also post a larger size if I can.
