Jupiter GRS June 16th 2012

Hi All,

Imaged Jupiter this morning at an alt of 15 degrees, obviously the seeing was pretty crook but I have one data set that I thought was reasonable. Imaged only at 807nm IR and have attached 1 data set.


It seems quite interesting that the SEB on the "f" side of the GRS is only half the width of the SEB on the "p" side. Io is off the "p" limb.

The IR filter really helps in this instance Trevor. Interesting to see the new Jupiter view for the season. JR had notified of the new disturbance. All the best.

Good stuff Trevor! Another few weeks until it clears the trees here but I'm chaffing at the bit something fierce..Thought the planet imaging bug would have calmed down by now but nope, it's getting worse as the years tick by..

Thanks Asi, can relate to the need to image, my wife say's I am obsessed with it, she's probably right.

Thanks Lester, the IR certainly excels in such conditions. Since hearing from JR I have been trying to get some data for him, this was really my first opportunity.

Thanks Matt, normally I would not bother at such a low alt, of course the data will be degraded, however John Rogers at the BAA and various other groups are very keen to receive any data, even low res data, due to the chaotic eruption of activity that is occurring in the NEB following Solar conjunction. It is not certain just how long this will last which makes it even more critical to try and provide coverage of what unfolds.
