Jupiter this morning (April 17)

It says April 16 on the image, cause it's captioned in UTC, but these were taken this morning in the subzero canberra climate...

The best seeing around here happens just a couple of hours before dawn but jupiter is low in the west by that time, and when it's high in the sky around midnight the seeing is normally very bad. It looks like jupiter season is almost past for me from Canberra - I'm holding out for a couple of weeks of good conditions in Rockhampton.

Hubble was scheduled to image Jupiter at around 18:17UTC, it was really cool to think that I was imaging at the same time... I hope they had better seeing :-)

regards, Bird

The image is too big to post here (800x800 pixels, 102kb). Here's a link instead:

Well done Bird - a set of excellent images despite the difficult conditions encountered. Great news that you managed to grab these in conjunction with the Hubble project - you must be as pleased as Punch!

Cheers

Dennis

Pity you got the bad end of the conditions Anthony, and i'm with you, that Jupiter for me is around midnight now, before it gets too far in the west when I can't see it anymore.

Pity the seeing usually isn't so good at that time of night
