'Hercules' from Sierra Remote

Hello everyone - next off the processing line is M13.

Got a bit to say about this, so bear with me.

When I drilled down to the core, this single green star stood out like a sore thumb. The colour data is properly calibrated, and this star is perfectly formed, but why it is green is beyond me (I dont think this is Barnard 29)

So:

Two versions of the image linked below:
The first is how I processed the image before I spotted this green alien.
http://www.martinpughastrophotograph.../M13LRGBv2.jpg

Revealing this star in a fully stretched/processed image is very difficult, so I reprocessed the core and blended it into this second version.

To see the green star in all its glory, click here:

Also in the image at lower right is NGC 6207 - the owner of SN 2004A, but no longer visible in this image.

cheers
Martin

Incredible image Martin. I was going to post a M13 image myself but I don't think I'll bother now.

Cheers

Another corker Martin. Beautiful sharp field. It's quite amazing to see so many background galaxies. It adds real depth to the whole vista.

Thats amazing resolution, I had a look at my M13 when I was in the UK and there is a green star too in my image I never noticed and some cyan looking stars as well.

John.

Green star

I decided to do some detective work and see if I couldn't figure out how to find Barnard 29 and the green star. The green star appears to be star 202 on Barnard's M13 list. It's variable. I wonder how many days it was between your first and last exposure? I downloaded the APOD hires BMP and looked at it in MS Paint. Star 29 (the blue one) is at x=1068, y=1117. You can see all of this for yourself by looking at Publications of the Yerkes Obs., Vol. 6. Look here:

http://articles.adsabs.harvard.edu/c...MB&classic=YES

The section on M13 starts on p. 62. M13 star positions start on p. 67.

Thanks everyone. Yes, 2 APODs in one month. Pretty happy about that.

Randy - excellent detective work, and many thanks for that.
