(over the years, there has been a lot of
confusing and
contradictory use by astronomers of terms such as "clumps", "cores", "protostars", ultra-compact HII regions, etc).

clearly-written review papers about star and planet formation.
This collection of review papers, called "Protostars and Planets V"(2007), eds Reipurth et al. , is still frequently cited in the current literature.
