Is this a standard cable? I can not find the one for the qhy wheel and I now need it but I do have one for the eq6 handset and another for the robo focus. Are they all the same? If they are I can easily run one up. Anyone know?
Robin, QHY DB9 to RJ12 is a DB9 to 6pin 6Connector jack (6P/6C). There is very little (read "none") conformity on how the RJ pins are arranged, each mfger does their own thing.....which can be a real issue if you use the wrong cable.
Anyway, FWIW, I don't have a QHY wheel but I did make a Bluetooth unit to drive one and I used this config. Please double check with someone else.
You may find it handy to make your own... All you need is:
1. Crimping tool - around $50
2. Cheap multimeter - around $10
3. Wire and terminators (4, 6 or 8 pin sockets)
4. Serial cards (about $4-5)
5. Breakout boxes (around $8 - handy when the wiring gets tricky - multiple wires to one pin), or when you share the gear between say a Vixen Autoguider port (non ST4 pin layout) and Celestron gear, and you want a simple convertor
Also if you want to run cable for long distances - LAN cable (cat 5) is brilliant, tough, cheap, very hardy and well constructed. I find it more stable than flat 6 or 4 pin cable - just use the wires you need!
