Can this be used to view solar prominences ?

On ebay I found a 0.1 nm filter pair for Halpha for $225.

It is unclear how large the filter is whether it fits in front of a 10cm objective.
Any ideas ?

An alternative can be a Baader solar foil in front of the objective lens and a 6nm Halpha eyepiece filter. But 6nm is way too wide ?

Using this ebay filter as eyepiece filter in combination with Baader objective foil renders a very dim solar image ????

Any ideas on this ?

I dont know Skysurfer , you only have one pair or eyes , and if I was going to view thw sun in H/A light I would use a dedicated solar scope , Coranado , Lunt etc . as the sun wont take no prisoner's when it comes to viewing thru a scope .
Thats my 5c worth , someone else may know of these but ,,, blindness is perminant .

First things first. If you don't have access to a spectrometer to test what is coming out the eyepiece, then you are risking blindness.

Yes these filters can be used to build a functional solar telescope that gives prom views similar to a PST but far less surface detail, but you can't just use them on their own.

David Gorski has plans that if you follow you can build a scope using these and a blocking filter, but the cost will be up around or more than a PST.

Solar foil can't be used to view Ha, it blocks it all effectively, so that is a dead-end path.

Basically, you can get good surface granulation and sunspots with Baader AstroSolar foil and a good polariser filter or Baader Continuum filter, or you can get Ha views with more expensive etalon based systems like those from Coronado, Lunt or Daystar.

I would head over to Solarchat, they have a good library of reading and plenty of people to help you not waste money or damage your eyesight/equipment.
