Some Ha from last night

Got out last night and shot some Ha with my 200mm pentax lens.
I closed the lens 2 stops. The field was much improved.
I went for 10min exposures.

As always more data will make it smoother but the clouds seem back in tonight. May have a play in PI with it later see if I can get it better.

Not really, color's been dead and long gone for me in my neck of the woods. Only when I get out of Sydney. Would love to do some though.

The OSC is useless even with LP, UHC-S filters. I have tried them all times again and always got very disappointed. I guess if you have top of the range optics with close to nill light scattering you'll be less affected. Peter Wards skies are probably worse than mine but he still gets incredible results.

I have a set of LRGB filters for the QHY9 that I have never used so I wonder if that would be better to block LP rather than a clear filter on an OSC that solely relies on the micro-lensing of the bayer matrix. Will give it one more go and see what happens.

Thanks Troy. Yeah it looks like it hey? 200mm is really a sweet FL. Wide enough while keeping some neat details. About 5 degrees of field with an image scale of 6asp. Just right IMHO. Very easy on guiding for one of those lazy nights.

Thanks a lot Steve. Glad you've enjoyed them. I was stoked with the field. It's the first time that I tried stopping that 200mm and that I have got anything that neat to the edges. The down side is a little more noise and diffraction spikes but I think the result outweights the little issues. I might consider getting some 6x7 full frame lenses later on when budget allow but I have plenty to play with for now.

Thank you very much for the comment Allan. I'm thoroughly enjoying yours and others latest NB work. You guys are progressing in leaps and bounds. The standard of of the pictures posted here these days is getting scarier. Even the beginners forums are not so beginners anymore. What are you guys eating? I want some.

You're inspiring me to take a week off work, bang on my 200mm lens on the STL and start shooting hydrogen alpha.

This is scary; I'm starting to feel the need for dark skies for the first time since I imaged Andromeda in October.

Nice punch of the water melon there Marc. I love the contrast that NB poffers up and knowing that your capturing a very specific band of light always intrigues me!

Hope it all goes down a treat to get some more data.

Thanks Brendan. Yeah I wouldn't mind tripling the time on the prawn as it's a little on the light side at the moment.

Thanks Mike. Didn't really do anything different. Just stopped the lens which I never did before. I didn't expect that much of an improvement but now I'm going to seriously rethink how I do things with my other lenses too.

I guess Ha lens work is no thrill. Not demanding and lately I've lacked motivation between work and weather. This gets me out at least and keeps the motivation level up as it works and you always go home with something.

Grat job Marc, in particular I really like the field of NGC6231, it is fantastic! I also recently imaged this area, even if with a much smaller field of view, and I find it is a real mine of hidden treasures! Thumbs up, I agree these are perhaps your best shots to date.

Thanks Marco. It's a really nice area which I noticed first when doing 35mm and 50mm ha widefields.
